Two men – Carlos Nazario, 35 and Bryan Whittle, 39 – stopped a gunman at an Oklahoma City restaurant after opening fire and injuring three patrons. These two gentlemen happened to arrive at the restaurant and when they saw what was happening, both immediately went into action.
Military police officer, Katia da Silva Sastre, was leaving her daughter’s private school after attending a Mother’s Day party. Katia and her daughter were with a group of other women when a 21 year old male approached them and aimed a .38 revolver at the school security guard. Sastre grabs her gun from her handbag, loads it and fires at the man, saving several young children, mothers, and other bystanders.
Stephen Willeford lived close by to the First Baptist Church in Sunderland Spring was warned by his daughter when she heard gunshots. As a former NRA instructor, Willeford loaded his rifle and ran to the church to intervene. He fired at the gunman and was able to hit him, but the shooter fled the scene. Shortly after, he flipped his truck into a ditch and was found dead at the scene.
A student opened fire at Price Middle School in Atlanta, wounding another student. An armed officer stationed at the school was able to get the gun away from the shooter before it escalated into something worse. The school officer was off-duty at the time, but thankfully was at the school at the right time.
The gunman from the New Life Church shooting first opened fire at a youth training center early that same morning. He killed two and wounded two others, and then escaped and made his way to the church. He was armed with multiple guns, killed two people, and injured three. It was then that church member, Jeanne Assam – a licensed gun owner, fired back at the gunman. Assam, who is a former law officer states, “I took cover. I identified myself. I engaged him. I took him down”.
