Believe it or not, Springfield Armory actually began because of George Washington in 1777. He actually ordered its creation to have a designated place to store revolutionary ammo and gun carriages. In 1794, the company began manufacturing muskets and soon became a knowledgeable and established business. It wasn’t until 1968 that Springfield suffered a great downfall; due to budgetary issues, the US Government forced Springfield to close down.
Six years later, the saving grace known as the Reese family brought the Armory back to life; in respect to the Springfield Armory legacy, they decided to take on the Springfield Armory name and carry on with the same values and heritage of the original.
Today, the Armory is recognized as a reputable leader in the firearms industry. The company’s most recent great innovation was just a few years ago with the evolution of the popular XD handgun. The XD Mod.2 Subcompact handgun was released in 2014 and features a slimmer frame and more.
